Supporters of schismatic monks display antisemitic banner in Thessaloniki

Around 400 supporters of the schismatic Esfigmenou monastery on Mount Athos rallied in Thessaloniki to protest the recent conviction of the monastery prior and another monk to twenty years imprisonment each for construction, possession and usage of Molotov cocktails during an eviction of the order’s administrative offices in 2013.

The protesters displayed a huge antisemitic banner reading “Judeo-Masonry wages war on Greece and Orthodoxy.” [see photo below]

Earlier this month, protesters (zealots, football fans and Nazis) gathered outside Parliament in Athens to decry the conviction of the zealot monks chanting “Hands off the Orthodoxy” and “Jews out of Parliament.” [watch video below, 0’18’’] Golden Dawn MP Giannis Lagos was also part of the rally.

During a rally that took place at Athens’s Propylaia in February 2016, the excommunicated abbot of Esfigmenou monastery warned the Jews of a “Greek Hitler” that might come.

Far-right Golden Dawn MP calls Israel ‘eternal enemy’ of Greeks

Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos called on the Justice Ministry to take action against a neo-Nazi lawmaker after he made anti-Israel comments in parliament.

Speaking during a debate in parliament on Monday, Christos Pappas, from the Golden Dawn party, called Israel an “eternal enemy of Greece and Orthodoxy,” a reference to Greece’s official church.

Kammenos has himself in the past been criticized for anti-Semitic comments, after claiming in 2014 that Greek Jews paid fewer taxes than other Greeks, but since taking up the position of defense minister has overseen increasingly warm ties with Israel.

  • The leader of the right-wing Independent Greeks Party, Panos Kammenos, is not the only Greek politician who has been accused of disseminating antisemitic rumors or trivializing the Holocaust. To mention but two examples: Dimitris Kammenos of the Independent Greeks Party was forced to resign after receiving ministerial post in September 2015 over an outcry about a series of anti-Semitic and homophobic tweets. Panagiotis Sgouridis, another Independent Greeks MP, abused the memory of the Holocaust in June 2015 by mentioning Gaza during a speech about the murdered Jews of Kavala and saying that “victims become bullies.”
  • Syriza Party has called Israel’s Operation Protective Edge against Hamas in Gaza two years ago “a crime against humanity”. Palestinian terrorist Leila Khaled met with Dimitris Papadimoulis, Syriza MEP and Vice-President of the European Parliament, in its headquarters in Brussels in February 2016. Syriza, a left-wing party that despite its past support for the Palestinians has sought to strengthen ties with Israel, has called Khaled in a statement issued after the meeting an “activist with a historical role in the Palestinian Resistance.”

Greece: Another antisemitic headline

“GREEK PARLIAMENT TURNED INTO JEWISH SYNAGOGUE”

This is today’s headline on one of the many Nazi gutter newspapers in Greece. It refers to the hanging of a commemorative plaque in the Greek Parliament with the names of all Jewish Members of the Greek Parliament who perished in the Holocaust. All political parties attended the ceremony save for the Nazi Golden Party.

Greek ultra-nationalist blogs target LGBT rights activist who also stands against antisemitism

On the aftermath of the approval of same-sex civil partnerships by the Greek Parliament, many ultra-nationalistic websites published violent diatribes against the LGBT Community in Greece and those who voted in favor of the bill.

One of these websites, antipliroforisi.blogspot.com, suggested in a recent blog post that the same-sex civil partnerships have been instigated by “the Zionists”. The author of the post, who signs as “Sigma”, particularly targets Aristeidis Paraskakis, LGBT rights activist who also stands against antisemitism, accusing him of being “a Jew” serving foreign interests.

The collage of photos included in this abusive and inciting post show the activist being part of the audience assisting at the plenary session for the approval of the afore mentioned law act, wearing a kippah or holding Rainbow and Israeli flags during a demonstration. The photos are accompanied by an inscription which states: “Aristeidis Paraskakis, the Jewish organizer of Gay Pride and obviously the Jews are secretly backing him.”

Sigma also targets all those who supported or voted for the same-sex partnerships. Sigma’s inciting remarks include “they’re all Greek-speaking Janissaries” and “we should get rid of them.”

Antipliroforisi blog runs a Facebook page with more than 3.300 likes. It regularly publishes posts implying that Jewish people control everything in the world or even denying the Shoah.

President of Greek pharmaceutical company warns parliament of Jewish conspiracy

Back in 2013, Abravanel reported:

In the beginning of 2012, amidst the worst economic crisis since WW2, a new law is passed which introduces a limited use of generic drugs in greek Public Health system. The greek pharmaceutical industry feels threatened as seen in the statements by the Greek Association of Pharmaceutical Industries. A prominent member of the association is VIANEX owned by brothers Thanasis and Pavlos Yannakopoulos […].

A couple of weeks later suddenly a new round of rumors begins, this time originating by the site newsbomb.gr; they are part of a series of posts which vehemently accuse this new law – the actual titles are quite scary I might add. The villain in this case is israeli pharmaceutical industry TEVA and it’s tool Ilias Mosialos if not because he’s a paid stooge, certainly because of religious solidarity allegedly being Jewish himself. Indicative is the post «Coincidental? What do you think?» in which the author wonders whether it is a coincidence that rumors on Mosialos being Jewish appear and that israeli TEVA won over greek VIANEX on a series of auctions for the supply of hospital drugs.

[…]

Three years later, almost the same story: Dimitris Giannakopoulos, son of Pavlos Giannakopoulos and president of Vianex, said during Wednesday’s debate in Greek parliament that a pending bill to open up the country’s drug market to cheap generic drugs was the result of a conspiracy between Germany and Jewish groups. He also called for a parliamentary investigation into the role of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Greek-Israeli businessman Sabi Mionis, and David Harris, the director of the American Jewish Committee, in creating the bill. Only the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the Israeli Embassy to Athens protested [here & here] the conspiracy theories expressed by the president of Vianex.

Nazi Salutes in the Greek Parliament

On December 30th, 2014, the Greek daily newspaper Ta Nea published a photo showing two extreme right Golden Dawn MPs, Nikos Michaloliakos and Christos Pappas, giving a nazi salute after the announcement of the third and unsuccessful ballot result for the election of the President of the Hellenic Republic.

Past September, the Greek newspaper I Kathimerini released a video apparently showing Christos Pappas teaching two children how to give the Nazi salute and chant “Heil Hitler.”
According to recent opinion polls, Golden Dawn remains the third most popular party in Greece.

Antisemitic slur in the Greek Parliament over the Religious Communities Bill

Antisemitic references were made by Golden Dawn MP Michail Arvanitis, in the Greek Parliament, during the session of Sept. 30, 2014, during which the Parliament passed in principle the draft Bill on “The organisation of the legal status of religious communities and their associations in Greece.”
MP Arvanitis referred to the propagandistic slander that the Greek Jews do not pay taxes, which he admitted to be false, only to rephrase and point out that the Greek Jews through their contributions to their Jewish communities send the Jewish money into the Jewish banks while the State spends money for them.

Protocols of the Elders of Zion read aloud in Greek Parliament (via JTA)

October 26, 2012

(JTA) — A lawmaker for Greece’s neo-Nazi Golden Dawn Party has reportedly read out in parliament a passage from the anti-Semitic forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Ilias Kasidiaris, a spokesperson for Golden Dawn, read out Protocol 19 from the book: “In order to destroy the prestige of heroism we shall send them for trial in the category of theft, murder and every kind of abominable and filthy crime,” according to Panayote Dimitras of the Greek Helsinki Monitor.

Kasidiaris was addressing parliament Oct. 23 at a discussion on lifting his immunity in connection with suspicions of assault. “There was absolutely no reaction” to this in parliament, Dimitras said, which, makes “all parties held as accomplices.”

In a written statement Friday, the Foreign Affairs Network of B’nai B’rith Europe called the manuscript’s reading in an E.U. parliament “a sign of moral corruption and degradation which must not be overlooked.” The silence with which the reading was received was “doubly worrisome,” the network wrote in its statement.

In June, Kasidiaris slapped female politician Liana Kanelli three times on the head during a television discussion. He was subsequently locked in a room in the studio but he knocked down the door and escaped.

‘Black metal’ musician elected to Greek Parliament with anti-immigrant political party

Giorgos Germenis was one of 21 members of the Golden Dawn party, often associated with neo-Nazis and fascism, elected to the Greek Parliament. He’s a member of a black metal band — a type of music associated with dark, violent themes and satanism. He’s not your typical politician. The election to parliament of a bass player from the Greek Black Metal band Naer Mataron has the Greek media scrambling to find connections between facism and heavy metal. Chaos, as Greeks like to say, is a Greek word. And Greeks might agree that the election of a Black Metal musician to a country’s legislature does not bode well for political stability. This is the band that everyone in Greece is talking about these days. Giorgos Germenis will represent the Golden Dawn political part and the Greater Athens district in parliament. He’s known by the stage name “Kaiadas.” That’s the chasm in ancient Sparta where children were thrown to their deaths after being judged unfit to meet the rigors of Spartan life. Golden Dawn isn’t exactly what you’d call a mainstream political party. Academics say it has neo-Nazi and facist leanings, though the party rejects those labels. The party has promised to get all immigrants out of the country, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail and has contemplated mining the country’s border with Turkey. In the current election, it won 7 percent of the vote, enough to claim seats in parliament for the first time — 21 of them.
