Greek mainstream newspaper singles out names of “Jewish origin” featured on Swiss Leaks

Ta Nea Front PageYesterday the Greek Daily “Ta Nea”, one of the country’s biggest mainstream newspapers, published an article specifying the “Jewish origin” of a “well-known family” and a “rentier” featured on the so-called “Swiss Leaks”.

“[…] the religious affiliation of the other account holders on the list is not provided. So, readers are not informed if the “businessman involved in shipping and born in Chios” or “three brothers born in Greece” are Orthodox, Catholics or atheists. Not that this information would be of any relevance”, points out the journalist Damian Mac Con Uladh.

In October 2012, Evangelos Venizelos, the current Pasok leader and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, also felt the need to single out Greek Jews saying that three of the names he had seen on the so-called “Lagarde list of” about 2,000 Greeks with large bank accounts in a Swiss bank were “Jewish” (more information at damomac.wordpress.com).
